Warum tanze ich? Das Geheimnis (oder: Anliegen?) hinter dem Tanz

20.03.2015

Das Geheimnis hinter dem Tanz.

Warum tanze ich? Was möchte ich dabei mitteilen?

The secret behind the dance.

Why do I dance? What would I like to convey to my public? What is my relationship to the role and the character?
Questions that are frequently asked of young dancers, whether solists or members of a group of dancers, and rightly so. The journalists of our magazine often ask these questions.
We begin our new series of interviews with three young dancers from the State Ballet in Berlin, who have all stood out for their exceptional work recently. Volkmar Draeger has been interviewing them.

Sarah Mestrovic – Soloist of the Berlin State Ballet

Why did you choose to take up dancing?

My mother sent me everywhere, from tennis to singing and violin playing to try to exhaust my energy. Out of all the many activities, ballet was my favourite. Between the ages of four to twelve years old, at the Tatjana Gsovsky School, I received my basic training under Gert Reinholm. I was then accepted as a newcomer, to the Berlin State Ballet, where I spent seven years developing my dance. It was Steffi Scherzer, the then “Prima Ballerina” in Berlin, who gave me my finishing touches, culminating in winning a bronze medal in the Varna Ballet Competition, in 2002.
